ABOUT US

Team 972 was founded in 2002 at Los Gatos High School. After competing for six seasons, the team disbanded due to the retirement of the lead mentor. In the fall of 2015, the FIRST Robotics Competition program was restarted by a group of LGHS students who had been a part of Pioneer High School’s Team 668. Since then, the team has grown in number from 15 to 45 members, won the 2018 San Francisco Regional, and gone to the World Championship.

WHO WE ARE.

Iron Claw is an FRC team that operates through the Robotics Class at Los Gatos High School. Team 972 was founded with a strong belief in the importance of student leadership.

Throughout the fall, student leaders train members in their technical fields. The culmination of our preseason training is a “mini build season” where we design a game and challenge newer members to apply the skills they have learned.

All aspects of our team—designing and building our robot, training members, fundraising, and hosting outreach events—are coordinated by students. Our members work with industry-level machines and software thanks to our access to the invaluable LGHS metal shop and woodshop.

FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams have six weeks to build an entire human-sized robot from scratch. At competitions, the robots play a sports-like game where teams are placed into alliances of three robots each.

Each season, we have six weeks to design, build and program an entire 140-pound robot. Our members initially collaborate on design and prototyping and contribute to sub-teams like manufacturing and programming for the remainder of the season.

We always welcome new support through sponsorship and mentorship. Without guidance or assistance, we would not be able to exist as a team. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or sponsor, please contact us HERE or email us at contact@ironclaw972.org.

MORE THAN ROBOTS

Iron Claw is more than a group of students building robots. We are a team that continually strives to make a positive impact in our community.

OUR IMPACT.

Every year, we conduct outreach at local elementary schools and community service events. We strongly believe that people should be able to pursue STEM regardless of their backgrounds, so we have expanded our outreach program to include community service events for people of disadvantaged backgrounds. As our outreach program further develops, we endeavor to maximize the impact of our efforts in the lives of future technology leaders.
